Without proper farming machinery, it would be much more difficult to move bulky and heavy objects. It also would be harder to construct a building or manage an agricultural field. Tractors and other pieces of farming equipment make people’s lives easier. For this reason, a variety of tractor manufacturers have devoted themselves to the lucrative farming equipment market.
One predominant tractor manufacturer is Caterpillar Inc.
With its iconic yellow paint, Caterpillar tractors are easily recognizable. The Caterpillar tractor company, based in Peoria, Ill., was founded in the late 1800s when Daniel Best and Benjamin Holt began perfecting tractor models.
The pair took note of an ongoing problem with existing tractor models; the extremely heavy machinery often got stuck in soft soil and after heavy rainfalls. Releasing a tractor from mushy soil is no easy task; Holt decided to incorporate wood block-linked treads around the idlers of one of his tractors. The problem was greatly reduced and the modern tractor was born.
By the 1930s, tractor sales reached more than $50 million. Tractor sales were not greatly affected by the Great Depression. After the World War II, Caterpillar tractors continued to sell. By 1950, Caterpillar tractors held the corner in a developing an international market.
Caterpillar manufactures a variety of Caterpillar tractor models, including the Caterpillar D6, D7 and 60. The company also produces other heavy-duty equipment, including hydraulic excavators and motor graders.
Another American tractor manufacturer that has become a major player in the industry is Deer & Company. Like Caterpillar, Deere & Company is based in rural Illinois. John Deere tractor equipment has become iconic with its distinctive green and yellow color scheme. John Deere tractors remain the most popular products manufactured by the company. John Deere tractor manufacturers also market a variety of other farm machinery pieces, including combine harvesters, balers, planters/seeders and forestry equipment.
A variety of other international companies have done well with manufacturing tractors and other pieces of farming equipment. For example, Century tractor manufacturers were developed by the South Korean company, Kukje Machinery. This company originally supplied components for John Deere tractors. Branson tractors eventually took over Century tractors.
For the company or entrepreneur interested in acquiring a quality tractor, a variety of tractor manufacturers offer a wide range of models to suit individual tastes and requirements.
